NEWS RELEASE 9 March 2000

Amazing faces from the Science Photo Library Direct
mail response over 19 per cent

More
than 7000 customers, potential customers, friends and photographers have been
sent a set of postcards from Science Photo Library (SPL) showing unusual images
of 'faces'. The pictures include a tooth bacterium, the inventor of phrenology
Franz Gall, a garden slug, a man undergoing G-force testing, a thermogram
of man's head, the planet Mars and a robot head. Each card carries full caption
information on the reverse.
Maria Storey, marketing director at SPL says: "This is the second in our State
of the ART series of postcards. With the first set, we mailed out over 10,000
in October and November last year and it proved to be very popular. We achieved
a response rate of over 19 per cent - an exceptionally good result considering
that the average business mailshot response is 5.2 per cent."*
A reply card is included in the pack to allow customers to register for future
mailings and receive a copy of SPL's latest catalogue. Customers are invited
to supply their email address if they would like to receive a copy of SPL's
new quarterly electronic newsletter which will be emailed out at the end of
the March.
The Science Photo Library is the world's leading photo agency specialising
