One shows a microscopic image of the blood vessels in a human penis, with the wry albeit anonymous observation that "life is a sexually transmitted disease." At the other extreme is the uncannily prophetic "Nothing exists except atoms and empty space; everything else is opinion" attributed to Democritus (455-370 BC), illustrated with an image of sub-atomic particle tracks.
