Caption: Alexander flowers. Light micrograph of a section through a cluster of alexander flowers (Smyrnium olusatrum). An umbel is a cluster of flowers that consists of a number of short flower stalks (pedicels) spreading upwards and outwards from a common point, similar to an umbrella's spokes. Magnification: x14 when printed 10 centimetres tall.
