Caption: View of the partly assembled Tagged Photon Spectrometer particle detector at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab), near Chicago. The interior of the cylindrical detector is lined with strips of scintillating material, which produce tiny flashes of light when traversed by electrically charged subatomic particles. The flashes are detected by the circle of photomultip- lier tubes. The detector was used in the late 1970s & early 1980s to study photoproduction at Fermilab's tagged photon laboratory. Experiment 516. Photo taken 1979.
