Healthy lymph node. Light micrograph of a section through a normal healthy lymph node. Lymph nodes form part of the lymphatic system in the body and have an important role in immune defence. The node synthesises and stores both the B and T-lymphocytes (white blood cells) responsible for detecting and destroying invading pathogens as part of the immune response. The node also filters circulating lymph fluid.
