Caption: View of the 15-foot bubble chamber at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab), near Chicago. The bubble chamber is the spherical container almost hidden by all the support gear. High- energy particles, accelerated in Fermilab's accelerators, enter the chamber from the right. These particles interact with protons in the liquid hydrogen that fills the chamber, producing new particles. Electrically charged particles produce trails of tiny bubbles in the chamber's liquid hydrogen. Seven special cameras positioned on top of the chamber photograph these trails of bubbles, which reveal the tracks of the particles. Photo taken 1976.
