Caption: Brown-lipped snail colour variants. Collection of brown-lipped snail (Cepaea nemoralis) shells showing the different colour variations. The colour of the shells varies from pink to yellow and the black bands vary from zero to five. The light coloured non-banded snails are found predominately in sandy areas, whereas the darker and heavily banded ones are found on dense vegetation, where they are best camouflaged against predation by birds. Collected on Braunton Burrow, Devon.
