Caption: Common sheep tick (Ixodes ricinus) on hair, coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). The common sheep tick is an arachnid, and has eight legs. It feeds on blood by piercing the skin of its host with its mouthparts. It can infect its hosts (which include sheep and humans) with Lyme's disease. Symptoms such as stiff muscles and joints, tiredness, fever, and lack of appetite, can cause sudden collapse. Magnification: x30 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
