Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan of an axial section through the head in a 46 year old male patient, showing irreversible destruction of the white and grey matter of frontal and cerebral regions (upper centre) of the brain. Known as intraparenchymal hypodensity, this coma patient was declared 'brain dead' and this examination was conducted under a protocol for the removal of organs.
