Caption: Prostate cancer radiotherapy equipment. The grey cylindrical rod is a trans-rectal ultrasound probe that is inserted into the rectum of the patient being treated for prostate cancer. The ultrasound probe and the template grid (black square) is used to guide long hollow needles through the perineal skin to the prostate gland, to implant radioactive sources. This is known as brachytherapy, and is a form of radiotherapy. The radiation kills the cancerous cells.
