Caption: Radioactive sources, cancer radiotherapy. These packets contain small 'seeds' (sources) of radioactive iodine, which are used for irradiation of cancers. These ones are to be used to treat prostate cancer. The iodine sources are loaded into long, hollow needles and graduated guides are used to insert and implant the radioactive sources in and around the prostate gland. The procedure, known as brachytherapy, is a form of radiotherapy. The radiation given off by the iodine kills the cancerous cells.
