Caption: Severe flooding. Bridge over Newlands Beck that was washed away during the worst flooding on record. The flooding was so severe that the beck (stream) changed its course, following one from years before and flooding surrounding farmland. The mechanical digger is trying to replace the embankment and divert the water flow to where it was before the flood. Photographed near Keswick, Cumbria, UK, in November 2009.
