The patterns produced are repeated at ever- increasing magnifications. Such images can be computer-enhanced and coloured to give the effect of 3-dimensional landscapes as seen here. Fractal images are part of chaos mathematics, a tool for modelling real-life 'random' processes as diverse as fluid turbulence and stock market prices.
