Computed Tomography (CT) scan in axial section through the head of an 86 year old patient, showing a large Merkel tumour (cancer) on the head outside the brain in the fronto-temporo-pariental region. Merkel cell carcinoma is a rare aggressive type of skin cancer that occurs in hair follicles. This neuroendocrine tumour is caused by Merkel cell polyomavirus.
