Caption: False-colour transmission electron micrograph of chloroplasts in a protoplast from a tobacco leaf, Nicotiana tabacum, (cultivar Xanthi). A protoplast is a single intact cell which has been chemically treated to breakdown the outer cellulose wall (missing here). This protoplast is sectioned to show the organelles within. The numerous green bodies are chloroplasts, where the process of photosynthesis occurs. The granular body (blue, red) is the nucleus and the eyespot within it is the nucleolus, where the genetic information of the cell is housed. The orange, heart-shaped structure is a vacuole. Magnification: x1680 at 6x4.5cm size.
