Caption: Martian impact crater. Coloured satellite image of an impact crater on Mars. The absence of sand build-up within the basin of the crater and the lack of secondary impacts indicate that this is a relatively recent impact. Image obtained by the High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) camera on NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) on 1st January 2009. The width of this image is roughly 1.3 kilometres across.
