Caption: Gully erosion. Soil that has been heavily eroded as a result of deforestation. The lack of trees has left the underlying soil open to being washed away. Gully erosion occurs when water flows through narrow channels as it drains away during or after rain, carrying soil with it. Photographed in the in Grande Sertao Veredas National Park, Brazil.
