Caption: Georgy Babakin (1914-1971), Soviet space engineer. Babakin worked on the guidance system for early missiles. Later, as Chief Designer at the Lavochkin Design Bureau from 1965, he helped design equipment for space exploration. During his career, he worked on the Burya intercontinental cruise missile, the V-300 anti-aircraft missile, and the Luna 9 and Venera 4 spacecraft. After his death, his bureau continued to achieve success in planetary and lunar exploration. A crater on the Moon has been named in his honour. Photographed in 1965.
