Caption: Tapeworms in a petri dish. Adult tapeworms are parasites that inhabit the intestines of animals and humans. Different species of tapeworms have different animals as their intermediate and final hosts. The tapeworm does not possess a digestive tract and so absorbs nutrients from the half-digested food of its host through its skin. Photographed in 2004, at the Russian Academy of Sciences's Parasitology Institute, Moscow, Russia.
