The rod-like, non-motile bacteria (gram negative) are widely distributed in nature, occurring in soil, water and grain. They are also found in the digestive tract of healthy humans and other animals. Particularly virulent strains cause a frequently fatal type of pneumonia. Magnification: X 1970 at 35mm size. Coloured orange. Original is BW print B220/085.
