Caption: First Trans-Baikal Railroad train. Steam train approaching a manned signal point on the Trans-Baikal Railroad, in March 1900. This section is part of the East Siberian Railway, which is itself part of the network of railways called the Trans-Siberian Railway. The newly completed section ran from Irkutsk to Baikal on the western shores of Lake Baikal, and from Mysovaya (Babushkin) on the eastern shores of Lake Baikal to Sretensk. However, these two sections were not connected until the completion of the Circum-Baikal Railway (between Baikal and Mysovaya) in 1904.
