Caption: GENETICS, CLONING Illustration of vertical reproductive cloning (Dolly). A cell is taken from ewe A and the nucleus is preserved (genetic code). An ovule is taken from ewe B and the cytoplasm is preserved. In a test tube, using an electrical discharge, the nucleus from the one cell fuses with the cytoplasm from the other. When it is a few days old, the resulting embryo is implanted into the uterus of a surrogate mother. After a few months, a baby ewe (i.e. Dolly) will be born, identical to ewe A who supplied her with her genetic code.
