Caption: Coloured transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of a colony of Acinetobacter sp. , a species of non- motile, non-sporing, Gram negative bacteria belonging to the Neisseriaceae group. Individual members are often encapsulated, and may occur in pairs; size varies from 0. 5 to 1. 5 micrometers. The central bacillus (rod-shaped bacterium) is seen in longitudinal section. The bacteria may become pathogenic to humans and animals, causing a wide range of infections, including septicaemia and urinary tract infection. Magnification: X 15,000 at 35mm, x30,000 at 6x7cm size.
