Caption: Coloured scanning electron micrograph of the bacterium Helicobacter pylori (formerly called Campylobacter pyloridis). The colony is seen here coloured yellow, residing on the mucous membrane of the stomach. H. pylori is a curved, or spiral, Gram- negative bacillus with flagellae which make it highly motile. The species has been linked with the formation of stomach ulcers, through observation of the bacterium in biopsy specimens from patients with active chronic gastritis and peptic ulcers. Magnification x850 at 6x7cm, x430 at 35mm size.
