Caption: Stillborn infant with trisomy 13 (also known as Patau syndrome) a chromosomal abnormality, a syndrome in which a patient has an additional chromosome 13 due to a non-disjunction of chromosomes during meiosis. The extra chromosome 13 disrupts the normal course of development. Here it has resulted in cyclopia (also cyclocephaly or synophthalmia), in which the orbits of the eyes are improperly divided, also affecting the nose.
