Caption: SEM of bacteria in cow feces. A small part of a fresh patty was fixed and prepared for SEM. The bacteria were not as abundant as in human feces, but the several bacteria similar to Campylobacter jejuni (wavy and light yellow in this image) observed are known to cause food poisoning in humans. Contamination of meat at a slaughterhouse with cattle feces may have severe health consequences, particularly if the bacteria contaminate ground beef and the hamburgers are not well done to kill the microorganisms. Enhanced SEM. Image width: 9.85 micrometers. Magnification: 10,150x if the image is printed 10 cm wide.
