Caption: Fusobacterium. Coloured Scanning Electron Micro- graph (SEM) of Fusobacterium bacteria. This genus includes one of the species responsible for tooth decay in humans - Fusobacterium nucleatum. Fusobacterium sp. are gram negative, anaerobic bacilli (rod-shaped cells). The cells are long and tapered at both ends. Fusobacterium sp. are obli- gate animal parasites, forming part of the intest- inal flora of a range of organisms from termites to primates, and including humans. Magnification unknown.
