These Gram-negative, rod- shaped bacilli bacteria have flagellae (hair-like structures) for motility. Salmonella paratyphi is the causative agent of paratyphoid fever in humans. The disease is identical to typhoid fever, except less severe. The bacteria are transmitted through food or drinking water contaminated by the faeces or urine of infected patients. Para- typhoid fever is an infection of the digestive system causing enteric fever, rash, chills and sweating. Magnification: x6000 at 35mm size.
