Dairy bacteria. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Lactococcus sp. bacteria. These spherical, Gram-positive bacteria are found singly, in pairs (as seen here) or in chains. They are used to make fermented dairy products, such as cheese. They produce lactic acid as a product of glucose fermentation. Magnification: x150, 000 at 6x7cm size.
