Caption: Popovich orbiting in Vostok 4. Soviet cosmonaut Pavel Popovich (1930-2009) demonstrating free-fall with a floating pen while orbiting the Earth in the Vostok 4 spacecraft. This was one of the first manned missions into space. During this solo mission, which took place from 12-15 August 1962, Popovich orbited the Earth 48 times. Photographed on 12 August 1962.
