The bacteria are in an inclusion body (yellow) within the cell. Some of the bacteria are reproducing by dividing into two new cells. Chlamydia are Gram-negative round (cocci) bacteria. Several species are pathogenic to humans including, C. trachomatis, which causes the sexually transmitted infection chlamydia, and C. pneumoniae, which causes a form of pneumonia.
