Caption: One of the first emulsion photographs of the track of a man-made pion, which was produced at the 184- inch cyclotron at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory in 1948. The pion enters from the right, traverses the picture & interacts at far left with a proton in the emulsion to form a small "star" of other particle tracks.
