Caption: Gagarin and other Soviet cosmonauts during a hunt. From left to right they are: Yuri Gagarin (1934-1968), Vladimir Komarov (1927-1967) and Andriyan Nikolayev (1929-2004). Gagarin had become the first human in space, orbiting the Earth in the Vostok 1 spacecraft on 12 April 1961. He died in an aircraft training flight in 1968. Komarov was the commander of Voskhod 1 in 1964, the first spacecraft to carry a crew of more than one. He died when the Soyuz 1 spacecraft he was in malfunctioned and crash-landed on 24 April 1967. Nikolayev was one of the first men in space, orbiting in the Vostok 3 spacecraft from 11-15 August 1962. Photographed in Russia, on 8 October 1966.
