Caption: Soviet cosmonaut training. Soviet instructor (2nd from right) showing a group of trainee cosmonauts the spacesuit and ejection seat they will use during missions into space. Crews of the first six manned Soviet missions ejected from their capsules shortly before landing. Those seen here include future Soviet cosmonauts Gherman Titov (1935-2000) and Yuri Gagarin (1934-1968), famous as the second Soviet in space and the first human in space. Titov flew Vostok 2 from 6-7 August 1961, just four months after Gagarin's flight in Vostok 1 on 12 April 1961. Of those in uniform, Titov is fourth from left and Gagarin (next to him) is fifth from left. Photographed in Russia, in August 1960.
