Caption: Emulsion photograph showing a cosmic ray magnesium nucleus entering from the top left corner & colliding with a bromine nucleus in the emulsion. The two nuclei shatter into a multitude of fragments, many of which are protons that were contained in the two nuclei. The density of the tracks depends on a combination of each particle's mass, charge & energy. (The track of the incoming magnesium nucleus is about 0.18 mm long).
