Caption: Arthrobacter protophormiae bacteria, coloured scanning electron microscope (SEM). These are aerobic soil bacteria, usually gram-positive, which can be used to manufacture the enzyme glucose isomerase for the conversion of glucose to fructose (isomerisation). They are also used for the bioremediation of chlorinated and nitroaromatic pesticides. Magnification: x5580 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
