Caption: The inside half of a three-dimensional reconstruction of Bacteriophage 29, a double-stranded DNA Virus that infects Bacillus subtilis Bacteria. This virus is highly studied because of its mechanism of loading DNA and later injecting it into its bacterial host. This is a tailed phage and when the tail comes in contact with its host it injects the DNA like a syringe. On the right is a portion of the three-dimensional reconstruction. The structure in red is the ds-DNA filling and plugging the neck of the collar before insertion into the host.
