Caption: A Great Blue Heron, (Ardea herodias), male flying back to the nest carrying a stick to add to the nest in a rookery in the Chequamegon National Forest, in Taylor County, Wisconsin. The female protects the nest from stick scavenging by other nest builders while the male gathers sticks from the shoreline nearby and carrys them back to the female who takes them from him and positions them on the nest.
