Caption: Blue-tongue Lizard (Tiliqua scincoides). This large skink grows to 60 cm total length. It is one of Australia's best known lizards; it is often found in backyard gardens and is much appreciated for its habit of eating snails. It occurs throughout northern and eastern Australia except the inland desert areas (where other related species occur). In the wild, it lives in woodlands, grasslands and forests, and rainforest margins. It feeds on insects and also carrion as well as native fruits and flowers. The lizard in this image is displaying its tongue in a characteristic threat/defensive display. Speewah, North Queensland, Australia.
