Caption: False-colour bubble chamber photograph of protons. A proton (red) enters the chamber from below & scatters from other protons (also red) in the liquid hydrogen filling the bubble chamber. Each time the angle between the scattered particles is close to 90 degrees, revealing the equality of their masses. The tracks of particles not involved in this game of subatomic billiards are coloured blue; the spirals are formed by electrons knocked from hydrogen atoms in the liquid & which curve tightly in the chamber's magnetic field.
