Caption: Bubble chamber photograph showing the production & decay of a neutral pion (pi-zero) & the production of matter & antimatter. A negative kaon enters from below & decays into a negative pion (curving to the right) & the pi-zero, which is neutral & so leaves no track. The pi-zero decays almost immed- iately into two gamma-ray photons (also neutral & therefore invisible), which betray their existence when each turns into an electron & a positron (anti-electron) at the top of the picture. The el- ectrons curve clockwise, the positrons anticlock- wise in the chamber's magnetic field. The spiral at top right is an electron which has been knocked out of an atom in the bubble chamber's liquid.
