Caption: Bubble chamber photo of a kaon interaction. Posit- ive particles curl anticlockwise, negative ones clockwise in the magnetic field. The kaon is the left-hand straight track entering at bottom. It soon interacts to produce a negative xi & a positive kaon. This kaon travels up & to the right before soon decaying to 1 negative & 2 positive pions. One positive pion curves down; the other decays at centre to a muon (short track), which in turn decays to an electron. The xi, meanwhile, travels up & to the left before decaying to a negative pion (curving right) & a lambda. The neutral lambda is unseen, but betrays itself when it decays at left into a proton & a negative pion.
