Caption: Bubble chamber photograph of an interaction between a gamma-ray photon, which enters unseen from the left, & a proton in the bubble chamber's liquid. Amongst the particles produced in the event is a D, a particle which contains a charm quark. The D is the short, faint track which quickly decays at left into a number of other tracks. The photo was taken at the 1 metre liquid hydrogen bubble chamber at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC), California.
