Caption: Bubble chamber photo of the production of matter & antimatter. An antiproton enters the picture at bottom & collides with a proton in the bubble chamber's liquid. In the resulting annihilation, the energy released rematerialises as 4 positive pions, which curve anticlockwise in the chamber's magnetic field, & 4 negative pions, which curve clockwise. The two lower pions are less energetic & therefore curve more. The negative one travels a short distance & is captured by a proton; the positive one decays into a muon (bottom right) & an invisible neutrino. The photo was taken in the 72-inch bubble chamber at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, California.
