Caption: Photo of a proton interaction in a bubble chamber at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, California. Four high- energy protons enter at bottom & travel up the picture. The one at right collides with a proton in the liquid hydrogen filling the chamber, knocking it to the right. The angle between the particles is 90 degrees, revealing the equality of mass of the two protons. (The angle appears less than 90 degrees because of the perspective from which the photo is taken). The high- energy protons produce relatively faint tracks; the proton that has been struck has less energy & leaves a denser track before coming to rest.
