Caption: Bubble chamber photo showing the production of many electron-positron pairs from radiant energy. A proton enters from the bottom & collides with a proton in the bubble chamber liquid, producing 4 charged particles whose tracks curve away from the point of collision. A number of gamma-ray photos are also produced, but they leave no tracks because they are neutral; they betray their presence when their energy is materialised in equal amounts of matter & antimatter in the form of electron-positron pairs - the V-shaped tracks at upper centre. One electron loses energy when it radiates a photon & as a result curves into a tight spiral in the chamber's magnetic field.
