Caption: Ticker tape timer experiment. In this school experiment a trolley (seen in C007/0871) is attached to ticker tape passing through this electrically powered stamping machine. The trolley is set in motion along a sloping rail, and the machine stamps dots onto the tape at regular intervals as the trolley accelerates. The further apart the dots are, the faster the trolley is moving. This can can be recorded as a graph to demonstrate acceleration.
