Caption: Bubble chamber photo of proton interactions in the 30- inch hydrogen bubble chamber at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab), near Chicago. The protons enter from the right & travel across the picture to the right. Four of them interact with protons at rest in the liquid hydrogen filling the chamber, producing sprays of other particles. The paths of the particles are bent by the bubble chamber's magnetic field: the more massive & energetic the particle, the less its path bends. The small, tight spiral tracks are produced by lightweight, low- energy electrons knocked out of atoms in the bubble chamber liquid.
