Caption: Bubble chamber photo of the production & decay of a neutral xi particle. Negative kaons enter at bottom & stream up the picture. One collides near the bottom with a proton in the bubble chamber liquid & appears to stop short; in fact it produc- es a neutral xi & a neutral kaon. Being neutral, these particles leave no tracks. The kaon leaves the picture unseen. The neutral xi decays to a negative xi, a proton & a positive pion. The nega- tive xi then decays to a negative pion & a lambda. The lambda is also neutral & unseen, but reveals itself when it decays to a negative pion & a proton. Kaons, xi & lambda particles are strange particles, containing a strange quark.
