Caption: Bubble chamber photo of the production & decay of a negative xi particle. Negative kaons enter at bottom & stream up the picture. One collides with a proton in the bubble chamber liquid, producing a negative xi & a positive kaon. The xi soon decays to a lambda & an electron. Being neutral, the lambda leaves no track, but reveals itself when it decays almost immediately to a negative pion & a proton. Kaons, xi & lambda particles are strange particles, containing a strange quark. The xi is also known as the cascade particle.
